Support in school

Our team support individual students in mainstream lessons, clarifying and explaining any new language. We complete student support sheets every lesson, enabling us to check on any reinforcement that may be required. We also make sure all home learning is written down correctly and understood.

Our Communication Support Assistants use BSL/SSE (Sign Supported English) in the classroom when required to help the student access the curriculum. Some of our students use it not only for understanding but also for clarification.

This is in addition to the support a child gets before and after school, shown in our school routine section.

Our students can also be withdrawn from lessons and receive one to one tutoring with our Teacher of the Deaf. The Teacher of the Deaf will monitor receptive and language skills, reading and grammar, and support good audiological management.
