Rock Challenge 2019

I am very pleased to announce that we took part in the 2019 Rock Challenge® production. Rock Challenge® is a Performing Arts competition for schools, colleges and youth groups that aspires to promote creativity, healthy lifestyles and education. It aims to show young people how they can achieve a natural ‘high’ without the use of tobacco, alcohol and other substances.

Students chose mental health as the theme for their performance, with the brief as follows:

‘Words will not define me. Every day I journey forwards. In the chaos of the world it's easy to forget that we are human. Society tells us how to feel and how to be. But what if society is wrong? I cannot change who I am and if I could? I wouldn't. I will fight the words that chain me and the oppressors in my head.’

The School was most proud to win the Student Leadership Award, as the concept of the performance through to its delivery was driven by the students themselves. The basis of the performance was centred on mental health issues that young people may experience and the routine was expressive of this; the message being ‘it’s ok not to be ok’. In addition, the team received awards for Set Design and Function, Stage Use, Visual Enhancement, Lighting, Entertainment, Concept and Performance Skill.

In total, 39 students participated in Rock Challenge and practised tirelessly with the help of dedicated staff over the last year. On the day, the students were all incredibly supportive of other teams as well as each other and were a credit to the School.

The Henry Beaufort School would like to express special thanks to Barratt David Wilson Homes and The Henry Beaufort Association who made donations to enable participation in such a wonderful event.

We were delighted to have scooped third place in the heats.
