Staggered start to the School term January 2021 for Years 7, 8, 9 & 10

18th December 2020

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for all the supportive emails and kind words that have been sent in to my colleagues since the news was announced yesterday about the staggered start to the school term,  January 2021. It has given us all a tremendous boost.

Regrettably I have received no further information from the DfE  so we have made decisions that best suit the needs of our school community moving forward.

From Monday the 4th of January up to and including Friday the 8th of January your child will work from home. The government requires schools to provide 4 hours of learning for each day of remote learning.

On Monday the 4th of January your child should access the appropriate year group folder on the work at home folder on the school website.

From Tuesday the 5th of January all lessons will be conducted through the on line learning platform of Microsoft Teams.  Today your child has received information on how this works. These lessons will follow your child’s normal timetable for that week.  If your child has issues accessing the work please contact your child’s Year tutor in the first instance who will direct you to the right member of staff.

Each lesson will be 50 minutes long to allow for my colleagues to set up and prepare for the next lesson in the day and for students to switch between lessons and prepare resources.

As a school we have prepared some videos to help support you with your child’s learning whilst at home. These videos can be found on the school website (https://www.beaufort.hants.sch.uk/online-systems) and give detailed instructions on how students navigate the schools online systems as well as some of the online learning platforms we use across the school. We hope these prove useful for you and your child as they work from home.

If your child does not have access to a laptop, please contact the school on Monday the 4th of January. We are able to assist with this.

There will be a number of  ‘critical worker’ children in school and a separate google form has been sent out. Please complete this form if it applies to your family circumstances. Critical keyworker children will be in school from Tuesday the 5th of January 2021.

School buses will operate as normal for students who are working on the school site.

If your child is in receipt of a free school meal you will be sent a food  voucher to cover the lunch meal for the week.

Years 7 , 8 , 9 and 10  start back on the school site on Monday the 11th of January.

Information about rapid CV-19 testing on the school site will follow in the New Year once we have received  further guidance from the government  This will include a consent form for the testing. All of this will be communicated to you in the first week of term  subject to any changes that may occur in government thinking over the next few weeks.

In the meantime we would ask that you follow PHE guidance about a positive  CV-19 test result in a household and self-isolation. Please do not send your child to school if there has been a positive test result in your household.

We have managed a whole term of successful teaching and learning for our young people, together we will make sure this continues into the New Year.

Thank you for continued support.

Kind regards and warmest wishes for Christmas.
